Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IOCAS) was established on August, 1950, and it is one of the oldest institutes in marine science in China. IOCAS is also a key center for graduate education and training in marine science in China. It offers both PhD and M.S. degrees in 9 research fields, such as marine biology, physical oceanography, marine geology, marine ecology, marine chemistry, environment science, marine corrosion, marine medicine and aquaculture, and it also offers M.S. degree in meteorology and environmental engineering. It provides post-doctoral research opportunities in marine science too. IOCAS currently has 688 employees, among which are 389 research staff, including 299 senior scientists. Among the research scientists, 5 are academicians of the Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) and 2 are academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), and 115 are Ph.D. supervisors.
