Supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the State Commission of Natural Science Foundation, Profs. Sun Che and Wang Faming attended the conference of the International Association of Meteorology and the International Association of Physical Oceanography (IAMAS-IAPSO) held in Montréal of Canada. In the conference, they presented reports on the interaction between the Kuroshio Current and Chinese offshore circulations, and coupled thermodynamic ocean–atmosphere models, in the marine and atmosphere sessions, respectively. In addition, they exchanged the ideas effectively and fruitfully with international researchers on the Western Boundary Current System and ocean-atmosphere interaction processes.

Invited by John Johnson (the Chairman), Prof. Sun Che attended the working group meeting of the Deep Ocean Exchange with the Shelf (DOES), the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR); Prof. Sun introduced the latest progresses of research and observation in the interaction between the Kuroshio Current and the shelf of the East China Sea, receiving much attention from the audience. Meanwhile, details with a draft promotion plan of the World Ocean Shelf Experiment, proposed by Prof Yuan Dongliang and Academician Hu Dunxin in the DOES' working group meeting at Cape Town, South Africa, were also discussed in this meeting.
