The NPOCE SSC Meeting convened by Prof. Dunxin Hu was held successfully on Sep. 26 in Qingdao, which brought together 9 SSC members at home and abroad. Dr. Wenju Cai, the CLIVAR Pacific Panel Chair from the CSIRO of Australia, also attended the meeting.
At the meeting, scientists were discussing academic issues.
At the meeting, the present SSC members demonstrated their research achievements obtained since the NPOCE program inauguration in May 2010, and made a further plan for the development of NPOCE program. With a strong academic atmosphere, the scientists discussed enthusiastically and actively on the new ideas and hypotheses referred in the presentations, and these discussions reached a positive effect. Besides, the SSC proposed to add new members to the current committee, and at last confirmed three candidates who come from Australia, Japan and Korea. The scientists also discussed some issues related to publication of the Science/Implementation Plan. As one purpose of this meeting, it is also a plan meeting to the Open Science Symposium in 2012, confirming the date and place for the symposium, establishing a scientific Organizing Committee, and drawing up a name list of keynote speakers and invited speakers, all of which will lay the foundation for the success of the OSS next year.

On Sep. 27, a seminar was held in IOCAS. Not only did the SSC members Bo Qiu from University of Hawaii and William S. Kessler from NOAA give their presentations, but also 9 promising scientists from IOCAS and OUC presented their research achievements on this seminar. The young scientists were highly praised by the senior scientists from NPOCE SSC; meanwhile, they obtained precious advice and enlightenment through this experience.
The SSC meeting is the last converge before the Open Science Symposium 2012, and it is conducive to promoting an extensively worldwide cooperation and more importantly, to pushing sustainable development of the NPOCE Program. The exchange between Chinese and foreign scholars will promote the production of scientific research and provide a valuable opportunity for young generation of IOCAS to touch the high level of the research.
