On March 31, one session three times council meeting of China association of oceanic engineering, the first ocean engineering science & technology award and “double-top ten” award ceremony have been held in Beijing. The achievement of “Anti-corrosion protection and restoring techniques on steelwork of offshore platform at splash zone” from institute of oceanology, Chinese academy of sciences (IOCAS) winned the first prize.

The project of “Anti-corrosion protection and restoring techniques on steelwork of offshore platform at splash zone” was completed by associate professor LI Yantao, etc. at marine corrosion and protection research center of IOCAS. The researchers aimed at the corrosion restoring problems on steelwork of offshore platform at splash zone, mainly researched petrolatum-coated anti-corrosion and repair technology and sacrificial anode-type cathodic protection technology which have long-term anticorrosion life on marine steelworks at severe environment such as splash zone against the steel structure corrosion repair problems of the active duty offshore oil platform at splash zone. The petrolatum-coated technology and sacrificial anode-type cathodic protection technology could operated with water and have several advantages such as long-term protection, easy of application and environmental friendly. And the researchers also have proprietary intellectual property rights. Relevant achievements have been demonstrated with a project of 600m2 at offshore platform in Shengli oil field, which proved that it has great effect and make sure that offshore platform provide normal service in safe. The economic and social benefits were remarkable.

The ocean engineering science & technology award, China association of oceanic engineering established by rules of ‘Regulations on State Science and Technology Prizes’ and ‘Social force set up awards for science management approach’, is the highest science and technology award in the national ocean engineering field and after approval of ministry of science and technology. This time 99 projects declared the award, and first prize elected 10 projects, second prize elected 19 projects.
