Dr. Yingzhong Tang from School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences, Stony Brook University paid a visit to Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IOCAS) on Jan. 7th , 2013.

Dr. Tang delivered a report on ‘Eco-toxicology and ecology of Cochlodinium polykrikoides: How far away from ending the story?’, and had an in-depth discussion with researchers from Key Laboratory of Marine Ecology and Environmental Sciences. As for the worldwide Cochlodinium polykrikoides bloom, Dr. Tang detailed the latest research findings on the following aspects: Characterization of the toxicity; Allelopathy; Nutritional ecology; Life cycle of C. polykrikoides. Most importantly, he introduced the production and germination of resting cystsof C. polykrikoides, providing a feasible explanation for dramatic geographic expansion of CP blooms during the last 2 decades and annual recurrence of blooms. The report provides a good opportunity for the teachers and students in this field to share the new ideas together.

Dr.Tang received his doctor degree from National University of Singapore, majoring on Environmental Science and Engineering. At present, he works as the associate professor in School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences, Stony Brook University. In recent years, he is engaged in the following researches: Ecology and Eco-toxicology of Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) ,Taxonomy of Dinoflagellates, Phytoplankton Ecology. He has more than 40 papers published on many famous academic journals, such as Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the USA, Applied and Environmental Microbiology,Water Research, Journal of Phycology, Marine Ecology Progress Series, Harmful Algae.  Dr. Tang has won great prestige and got a leading position in the related research field.
