Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Corrosion and Bio-fouling, Chinese Academy of Sciences is ratified to establish in Institute of Oceanology, China academy of science (IOCAS) recently.

IOCAS began the research on marine corrosion and control in 1959, and established corrosion and control laboratory in 1990. It has an academician in marine corrosion and control research field, and it is the only organization with right to award doctor and master degree in China. It has been taking charge of the Key Projects in the National Science & Technology Pillar Program during the eleventh and twelfth Five-Year Plan Periods. After more than 50 years of research, the key laboratory has accumulated a huge mass of achievement in marine corrosion mechanism, marine biofouling mechanism, and novel techniques for corrosion and biofouling. The research on marine corrosion and biofouling has been listed as one of the five research directions in “135” Strategy of Chinese Academy of Sciences, The ratification to establish key laboratory marks that the construction of lab reaches a higher stage of development.

The key laboratory will keep on innovating in science research, international co-operation and so on, and make contributions to technology developing and economic construction of our country.
