During Jul.21-26, 2013, Dr. Hui Shen and Prof. Jinnian Chen of Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences have attended International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium 2013 (IGARSS 2013) which was held in Melbourne, Australia. They have given two oral (including one invited) and two poster presentations in the conference. Dr. Hui Shen was also invited as reviewer of the Symposium and co-chair for session “New Developments in Monitoring of Ocean Surface Features with Spacebourne SAR ".
IGARSS is the top level symposium in remote sensing community. In 2013, over 1,360 participants from 66 countries have attended this conference. It gave excellent platform for knowledge exchange, the exploration and discussion of topics related to 'Building a Sustainable Earth through Remote Sensing'- theme of this year. The future trend of satellite based ocean remote sensing will be satellite constellation network, multi-sensor, multi-polarization, multi-angle observations, high temporal-spatial resolution etc, providing wide coverage, long time series, explosive amount data, which requires support for data blending and interpretation techniques, and eventually contribute to regional and global ocean studies, such as climate change, regional dynamical or ecological disasters, and will also benefit the advancement of expertise of Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences in microwave remote sensing of oceanic and atmospheric dynamics.
