On 16 August, Dr. Nils Brenke of German Senckenberg am Meer Wilhelmshaven Marine Biodiversity Research Center, visited IOCAS and delivered a report entitled ‘An Overview of Selected German Deep-sea Expeditions’. The report mainly describes the deep-sea benthic surveys and studies (including expeditions, research vessels, and gears, sampling techniques, research results and experience). Dr. Nils Brenke demonstrated films and photos made by the Camera Epibenthic Slege (C-EBS) from the Kurile Kamchatka deep-sea region.
OnAugust, Director Dr. Sun Song, deputy director Dr. Li Tiegang welcomed the visiting guest, and had a discussion with Dr. Nils Brenke. Assistant director Dr. Li Chaolun and Dr. Xu Kuidong attended as well. Dr. Nils Brenke introduced the design, features, applications, sampling procedures and application of several commonly used deep-sea benthic sampling gears. Experts gathered around, conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on the deep-sea benthos of research results, development and possible problems during sampling.
On 18 August, Dr. Nils Brenke visited the ‘Science’ research vessel and associated laboratories and made suggestions for scientific research sampling equipment, which build a great foundation for the cooperation.
