Professor Donald M. Anderson from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution visited the Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IOCAS), on Jan. 13, 2016, during the Aoshan Forum “Marine Ecological Disasters: Mechanism, Consequence and Prevention” organized by the Qingdao National Laboratory for Marine Science and Technology.
Professor Anderson, who has been awarded the “Yasumoto Lifetime Achievement Award” by ISSHA (International Society for the Study of Harmful Algae), is a famous expert in the field of harmful algal blooms studies. He pays close attention on the status of harmful algal blooms in China, and has been collaborating with scientists in IOCAS on HAB studies for a long time. In 2016, he was awarded a PIFI program for extinguished scientist by CAS. During the visiting in IOCAS, he communicated with Professor Zhiming Yu, Mingjiang Zhou and other scientists from IOCAS on HAB studies in USA and China, and discussed the work plan and visiting schedule of the coming PIFI program.
The implementation of the PIFI program of Professor Anderson will further enhance the international collaboration of IOCAS in the field of HAB study, and push forward the HAB studies in China.
