Research on steel corrosion in concrete infrastructure

Date:Jul 11, 2016    |  【 A  A  A 】

The State Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) has launched Hong Kong Branch of National Engineering Research Centre for Steel Construction. Research on steel corrosion in concrete infrastructure is one of the most important topics for this engineering center. The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is the major participating research unit of this Branch.

Dr. Weihua Li from IOCAS was invited by Professor Jianguo Dai, professor at the Department of civil and environmental engineering, Hong Kong Polytech University, to Hong Kong in June 9, 2016 to attend an academic exchange seminar about Corrosion and Protection of Steel.

During this period, an academic lecture was provided at the Department of civil and environmental engineering. The lecture focused on the mechanisms of marine corrosion and introduced the research results and application examples of the anti-corrosion and surface coating technologies for reinforced concrete structures, steel pipelines etc. subjected to corrosive marine environments. Afterwards, we both shared our research interests and foundation respectively. Meanwhile they developed a cooperative research program depended on our research strengths:

Content of the project cooperation: the corrosion resistance of galvanized steel in marine reinforced concrete

Content of talent cooperation: Joint cultivating of graduate students

This visiting successfully completed the visit task according to the established schedule. Through the academic exchanges, we have broadened our ideas of research on the anti-corrosion and surface coating technologies for reinforced concrete structures. The research group of Professor Dai has a strong scientific research strength and foundation in the field of concrete material. Cooperation with Professor Dai plays an important role in our study of Corrosion and Protection.
