The Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR) held its 2016 General Meeting in September 4-7, 2016 at the Insititute of Oceanology of the Polish Academy of Siences in Sopot, Polish. The SCOR presidents, SCOR office members and SCOR representatives from different regions and nations attended the conference. As one of SCOR vice presidents and the China-SCOR president, Prof. Sun Song from Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences participated in the SCOR annual meeting. Prof. Sun Xiaoxia, as the China-SCOR representative attended the meeting.
The Annual SCOR meeting reviewed progress of SCOR activities in 2015. Two working groups among the eleven newly-applied working groups was voted as the key group. The member of each working group reported on annual activities and progress, and made recommendations on actions to be taken. The SCOR presidentand vice president positions were open for nominations for the 2016 elections. Prof. Sun Song was elected as the vice president of SCOR.
Originally formed by the International Council for Science (ICSU) in 1957, the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR) explores scientific questions about the ocean that often require an interdisciplinary approach. SCOR is an international non-governmental non-profit organization, and its activities focus on promoting international cooperation in planning and conducting oceanographic research, and solving methodological and conceptual problems that hinder research. Scientists from 38 countries currently participate in SCOR activities. SCOR also conducts several different activities to build the capacity for ocean science in developing countries and every SCOR acivity includes members from developing countries.
