On September 30, 2022, The 4th NPOCE webinar on the theme of Influences of western Pacific Ocean on regional/global climate greets its biggest audience ever since with more than 160 participants from Australia, China, Germany, Japan, Korea, and United States etc. Fan Wang, the chair of NPOCE Scientific Steering Committee (SSC) warmly welcomes all audience as the convener and host.

Following the traditional format, three invited talks are presented in this webinar. Dr. Yuanlong Li, from the Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, discusses Ocean Salinity Changes Induced by Subsurface Warming based on his recent studies of the ongoing and future climate change. Dr. Jin-Yi Yu, a senior Professor of Earth System Science at the University of California, Irvine, USA, proposes the mechanisms and impacts of the 11-year solar cycle on the central Pacific El Nino and typhoon activities in western Pacific. Dr. Yongqiang Yu, who leads a modeling group of Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, introduces their 1/10°-resolution air-sea coupled model, the FGOALS, and discusses the numerical simulation of subtropical gyre structure and variability in the North Pacific.

The First-year graduate school students from College of Oceanology, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences also attend this event. They are very excited to learn the frontiers of ocean circulation and climate from front-line scientists through the NPOCE Webinar. More exposure to international network for graduate education is highly expected in the future.

The 5th NPOCE Webinar scheduled on October 19 will focus on western Pacific Ocean's role in the variability of biogeochemical processes. Fei Chai, the vice-chair of NPOCE SSC will serve as the convener. We welcome both students and researchers to share your recent study on the coming NPOCE webinar in September (register at NPOCE web: ).
