RCO-BRIN Delegation Visits IOCAS

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the cooperation between the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Indonesian National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), in order to effectively promote the cooperation between China and Indonesia in marine science and technology, Udhi Eko Hernawan, director of Research Center for Oceanography of National Research and Innovation Agency (RCO-BRIN), led a delegation to visit the Institute of Oceanology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IOCAS) from December 18 to 21. WANG Fan, director of IOCAS, SHA Zhongli, deputy director of IOCAS, YU Rencheng, researcher, LI Yanwei, head of the International Cooperation Office, and relevant scientists hosted the delegation. 

On December 19th, both sides held a discussing meeting. Director WANG Fan extended a warm welcome to the visiting delegation and highly praised the collaborative research achievements achieved by both sides over the past decade. He pointed out that the current cooperation between China and Indonesia in the field of marine science has a solid foundation, and looked forward to continuing to deepen the exchanges and cooperation between the two research institutions in multiple fields of marine science and jointly promoting the implementation of joint cruises under the guidance of China's "the Belt and Road" initiative and Indonesia's "Global Marine Fulcrum" concept, taking the China Indonesia Joint Laboratory of Marine Science as the platform, thus making positive contributions to the healthy ocean and sustainable development of China and Indonesia. 

During the Discussion Meeting 

During the meeting, experts from both sides gave comprehensive academic reports on frontier research on marine biodiversity and marine ecology, and conducted in-depth discussions on future cooperation areas and implementation plans. The two sides reached a friendly consensus on future cooperation priorities, exchanges and visits, talent cultivation, platform construction, and other aspects.

During the visit, the delegation visited Qingdao Underwater World, Marine Biological Museum, Ocean Big Data Center, Intelligent Simulator of Marine Ecosystems, and west coast campus of IOCAS. 

During the visiting 

This visit has effectively promoted the understanding and exchange of experts from both sides, consolidated and enhanced the cooperative friendship between the two institutions, further clarified the future cooperation ideas and goals, and played an important role in carrying out and deepening the cooperation in marine science and technology between China and Indonesia.
