On May 14, a delegation led by David Baker, Director of the Swire Institute of Marine Science (SWIMS) of University of Hong Kong (HKU), visited the Institute of Oceanology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IOCAS). The delegation was received by HUAN Pin, member of the IOCAS Executive Committee, and LI Yanwei, Head of the International Cooperation Office. Relevant researchers participated in the meeting.

During the discussion meeting
Prof. HUAN extended a warm welcome to the delegation. He noted that against the backdrop of rapid global change, both sides share a common mission in marine science and sustainable development. IOCAS and HKU have already established a solid foundation for cooperation and have successfully conducted joint research and academic exchanges. He expressed hope that this visit would serve as an opportunity to deepen exchanges, explore new areas of collaboration, and achieve further breakthroughs in practical cooperation.
Prof. David Baker highly praised the close collaboration and fruitful outcomes already achieved by scientists from both sides. He emphasized that the research priorities of the two institutes are highly aligned, and closer collaboration between marine scientists in the mainland and Hong Kong would greatly enhance their ability to address major challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and marine pollution. He hoped to build on the existing foundation to elevate bilateral cooperation to a higher level and jointly promote marine science research and education.
