National Major Science and Technology Infrastructure RV Kexue passed National Acceptance and awarded high reputation on 24th April, 2015.

ZHANG Yaping, Chairman of the National Acceptance Committee (NAC), vice-president of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), together with 11 academicians attended the meeting as the committee of NAC. Director General of Bureau of Facility Support and Budget CAS WU Jianguo hosted the meeting.  

SUN Song, Director of the vessel’s impersonal entity--Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IOCAS), reported on the overall situation of this project. NAC conducted on-site observation on board RV KEXUE, and after a profound discussion, it approved the opinions of professional acceptance including building technology, equipment and materials, finance and archives.  

The experts from NAC said that IOCAS successfully completed the building task with high quality within the budget. As the first multi-purpose oceanographic research vessel of independent intellectual property right, RV KEXUE has flexible ability on deep sea exploration and research. Its main specifications have reached or surpassed advanced world levels. After two-year trial operation, RV KEXUE successfully finished the cruises of marine geological survey in South China Sea, hydrographic survey in West Pacific Ocean, thermal vent survey in Okinawa Trough and multidisciplinary survey in Caroline seamount and Yap trench etc. with significant scientific research outcomes obtained. 

Therefore, NAC thought highly of IOCAS because of its successful completion of the construction tasks approved by the National Development and Reform Commission which leads the development of national research vessel and thus, it greatly enhanced the ability and level of national comprehensive exploration of deep sea research.
