Prof. Winslow Briggs from US who has been just elected an Einstein Professor by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), paid a visit to the Institute of Oceanology，CAS (IOCAS) on December 10, 2010.
Briggs made an academic report on vegetation recovery after a California wildfire, introducing a new class of plant growth regulators in smoke. On behalf of CAS, IOCAS director SUN Song issued him a CAS Einstein Lecture Professorship certificate.
Briggs also visited the other relevant institutes under CAS including the Institute of Botany, followed by exchanges on botany with their staff.
Briggs is an international leader in molecular biology research relating to plant responses to light and to photoreceptor systems in plants. He was director of Carnegie's Department of Plant Biology from 1973 to 1993 and is now director emeritus, remaining an active researcher.
Being the top honor for oversea scientists in China, Einstein Professorships are awarded each year to 20 distinguished international scientists actively working at the frontiers of science and technology for conducting lecture-tours to China.
