EDUCATION

Ph.D. 1992 Institute of Oceanonlogy, Chinese Academy of Sciences

M. S. 1980 South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences

Graduated in 1978 from Xiamen (Amoy) University

RESEARCH AREAS

Molluscan mariculture:  Focus on hybridization between distance stocks and developed protocols for effective utilization of hybrid vigor in Pacific abalones. Techniques are developed for mass hatchery-production of seeds and ecological aquaculture mode in Manila clam, which has been manifested in the book “Clam Aquaculture” published in 2010.

Aquaculture Genetics: Genetic research and breeding program have been undergoing with respect to the bay scallop, addressing various genetic topics including the mechanism of inbreeding depression and hybrid vigor, relationship between shell color and growth. “Aquaculture Genetics in Bay Scallop” has been published as embodiment of the progress in this research area in our lab.

Oyster Genome Project (OGP): Served as one of themajor steering member of the Oyster Genome Project, in which the whole sequence of the Pacific oyster is completed. Studies on gene expression and gene regulation are under way, addressing various biological issues varying from morphogenesis to shell formation based on genomics.
