Dr. Hou Yijun got the Ph.D. from Ocean University of China in 1988. As the first post-doctorate in the field of Oceanography in China, Dr. Hou Yijun got an exceptional promotion to professor, and was authorized Ph.D. Advisor by the State Council Degree Office of China in 1993. In the same year, he was awarded the State Council Special Allowance. Dr. Hou Yijun visited the University of Delaware, USA, as a senior visiting scholar from 1996 to 1997, and has been Deputy Director of Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences since 2002.

Dr. Hou Yijun is now the chief scientist of the critical direction in the Knowledge Innovation Project of Chinese Academy of Sciences, member of expert group in marine technology in the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (863), expert panel member of National Nature Science Foundation of China, Ph.D. Advisor of University of Science and Technology of China, adjunct professor of Ocean University of China, visiting research fellow of The First Institute of Oceanography, SOA, committee member of SCOR－China and National Military Oceanology Academy, member of Society of Chinese Oceanology & Limnology，member of Chinese Meteorological Society, executive director of Chinese Ocean Remote Sensing Society, vice president of Marine Economic Technology Society of Shandong Province, editor of Marine Sciences, associate editor of Studia Marina Sinica and Donghai Marine Science, editorial board member of Oceanologia et Limnologia Sinica, Acta Oceanologica Sinica, Chinese Journal of Oceanology and Limnology, Journal of Hydrodynamics and Advances in Marine Science.

During these years, Dr. Hou Yijun has taken charge of several dozens projects, such as National 863 Advanced Technology, Key Problem of National Science and Technology, and National Nature Science. In the meantime, he has published more than 100 articles in chief publications both here and abroad, some of which are cited by others for several times, especially those about nonlinear sea wave statistic which have been complied into postgraduate textbook. The main fields of his study are nonlinear wave dynamics, statistical wave theory, nonlinear waves in Geophysical Fluid Dynamics and numerical simulation and data assimilation for ocean dynamical factors. The main contribution of his study are the theory that solitary wave can travel across media and the new developing equation following the three basic wave equations.

Dr. Hou Yijun got the award of Excellent Postgraduate Advisor of CAS in 1998 and 2006. In 1999, he won the honor of Excellent Person in Qingdao and Excellent Youth of Shenyang Division of CAS. He also got the award of Excellent Advisor of Shenyang Division of CAS in 2000. Because of the great achievements he has made, he was granted the award of Special Contribution for Ocean Measurement Technology in Ocean Field of National 863 Project in 2001. In 2005, he got the Awards for Science and Technology Progress (Second level).
