Research Interests

Marine sedimentology and past climate change. I’ve had a continue passion in reconstructing the evolution history of silicate chemical weathering in Asia and Asian monsoon system on various timescale (tectonic, orbital and millennial- time scales) using sediment records in the Asian marginal seas. I am also interested in tracing the processes, history and effect of Asian dust from land to the north Pacific, as well as continental shelf records of nature and human impacts on Holocene earth surface processes.

 

Academic Achievements

My major scientific achievements include: reconstructed the long-term evolution of the East Asian monsoon and drying history in Asian inland since 20 Ma; discovered the Quaternary evolution history of the Yellow Sea and Yellow River; firstly proposed the hypothesis of enhanced silicate weathering of tropical shelf during the glacials; presented the evidence of human impact overwhelming long-term climate control of weathering, erosion and fire activity in China since 2-3 thousands years ago.
