Through evaluation, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Education approved the basic design and budget of the Multi-purpose Oceanographic Research Vessel (MORV) in August 5th, 2009.

　　In the period of basic design, the project management department of MORV developed extensive investigation. They studied the technology characteristics of the international advanced research vessel, with foreign senior consultant and specialist in RV construction as well as ocean science and technology. Finally, the basic design and budget of MORV was finished in about six months collaborating with the ship design company.

　　The approvement of the basic design and budget is an important landmark for the construction of MORV. The Institute of Oceanology Chinese Academy of Sciences will cooperate tightly with Ocean University of China, The First Institute of Oceanography SOA, Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute, and Qingdao Institute of Marine Geology, to optimize the design and implement the construction of MORV as quickly as possible.
