Academic Press Publishes the Monograph---The Sea Cucumber Apostichopus Japonicus: History, Biology and Aquaculture

The monograph The Sea Cucumber Apostichopus Japonicus---History, Biology and Aquaculture, which summarizes the biology study, aquaculture technology and traditional culture of A. japonicus systematically and professionally, has been published by Academic Press of Elsevier Company recently.

The monograph concludes the principles of biology, physiology, ethology and culture theory, facility, technology, style and expand to the processing, trade and traditional culture aspects systematically. Totally 45 authors of 21 research institutions and universities from 6 countries including China, Canada, Japan, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Republic of Korea, and Italy, have taken part in writing this book.

The monograph consists of 24 chapters, covering the summary and discussion from perspectives of history, biology and aquaculture. The book introduces the Chinese traditional culture about the sea cucumber A. japonicus, the development of fisheries and aquaculture, and its taxonomy status and anatomy structure systematically (Chapter 1-4). Besides, it concludes not only research findings of theoretical biology including biochemistry composition, reproduction, development, movement and behavior, aestivation, albinism and immunology, but the development of aquaculture principles and achievement of facilities and technologies professionally (Chapter 5-18). In addition, the book describes the nutrient and medical value, processing and cuisine, and the worldwide production and trade of A. japoncus generally (Chapter 19-21). Particularly, the last three chapters (Chapter 22-24) make subject introduction about the research achievements and aquaculture development in Japan, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and Republic of Korea.

The publication of the monograph The Sea Cucumber Apostichopus japonicus:  History, Biology and Aquaculture is of vital reference value in both theory and application study of the sea cucumber Apostichopus japonicus, and will promote further research and industrial development of A. japonicus.
