The symposium on Green Innovation 2011 was held on May 22th~25th, 2011 at Qingdao, China. This symposium was supported by Chinese Academy of Engineering and organized by Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Hundreds of experts from nearly 30 institutions from Japan, Korea, and China submitted papers and attended this symposium. Academician Baorong Hou, from Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, wrote the preface for the “Proceedings of Symposium on Green Innovation 2011”. President, Professor Dun Zhang, from Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, chaired this symposium and delivered the opening speech.

The aim of this symposium is to search the hot research areas in Chemistry, discover new solution and the train of thoughts, promote competence of China in Chemistry, and play an active role in the development of green chemistry.

This symposium was divided into three parts: invited presentation, oral presentation, and post presentation. Japanese electrochemist, Professor Takeo Ohsaka, from Tokyo Institute of Technology and the vice-president of Korea Electrochemical Society, Professor Soo-Gil Park, gave excellent invited presentations on the hot research area in synthesis of green energy storage materials. More than 10 experts from Japan, Korea, and China made oral presentations, and 37 experts and students made post presentation. The academic committee awarded 6 students prize as outstanding presenters of post session and Jiajia Wu, student from Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, was awarded as the best presenters of poster session.

This symposium received nearly 60 papers. Having been surrounded the following five topics: molecular recognition and bioelectrochemisry, energy (bioenergy) storage and conversion, nano-size structural and functional materials, electrocatalysis and photocatalysis, and marine corrosion and protection, the delegates had an in-depth exchange and discussion on many hot areas in green innovation such as green power sources, anticorrosion materials, green catalysis, electrochemical detection, and so on.
