Research Center for Oceanography, Indonesian Institute of Sciences (ROC-LIPI) and Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IOCAS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Nov. 21, 2013 to build collaboration on ocean investigation initiatives.
According to the MoU, both sides shall provide scientific support for the ocean investigation and shall join hands to promote and encourage scientific research collaboration and academic exchange. The areas of research activities will be focused on, but are not limited to, the following research fields:
a. Ocean circulation in the Indonesian Seas and its climatic effects on Asian-Australian monsoon system,
b. Ocean mixings in the Indonesian sea and marine biodiversity conservation,
c. Ecosystem study and management.
The Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) is the governmental authority for science and research in Indonesia. It consists of 47 research centers in the fields ranging from social to natural sciences. Research Center for Oceanography has five research divisions: Physical Oceanography, Chemical Oceanography, Biological Oceanography, Applied Oceanography and Marine Geology.
