Prof. Dun ZHANG was invited to visit Professor Frank Cheng’s research group in the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Calgary in Canada. And Dr. Shiqiang Chen is joint training of postdoctoral, who communicate with her about microbial corrosion mechanism research and Professor Frank Cheng communicate with her in terms of investigating the corrosion.
We introduced our respective team some new progresses of microbial corrosion mechanism and experimental technique with Professor Cheng, And listened to Dr. Chen’s new progress report of work, discuss the follow-up work plan with Dr. Chen at the University of Calgary. Professor Frank Cheng is Canada's chief scientist in pipeline engineering field and regional director in Canada of global corrosion investigation. We exchanged and discussed the phased work of global corrosion investigation, results of biological corrosion investigation and the latest situation of corrosion survey in China.
In addition to, Prof. Zhang has carried on the field investigation on the corrosion protection of the urban construction in Vancouver and Toronto, which was the bigger cities of Canada. Vancouver is a coastal city in Canada, which is located in the peninsula between inland sea buller and false creek in west entrance of Canada, the coordinates are 49°13N 123°06’W. Vancouver has a mild sea climate, Summer temperatures in 20℃ or so, it seldom snows in winter, but still have more rainfall. Corrosion investigation of Vancouver city building. The investigation content included the steel structure in the city (stents, bolt and nut), reinforced concrete structure (infrastructure buildings), bridges (steel pile, guardrail, etc.). Toronto is one of the most southern city of Canada, which is located in northwest of Lake Ontario. Toronto is four seasons distinct city. The spring is short; Summer is hot and humid; Autumn is sunshine, and winter is cold. The investigation content included the steel structure in the city (stents, bolt and nut), reinforced concrete structure (infrastructure buildings), bridges (steel pile, guardrail, etc.).
